So I don’t really know what I was thinking lol, but here are some things i learned from my shoot last night.
1) Wearing white capris is not a good idea if you are going to the beach and will possibly be getting drenched by the water. (and keeping your phone in your pocket is pretty dumb too lol)
2) Go out and buy the dumb bug spray!!! For some reason I keep forgetting this part of photography, especially in the early evening/ night. So I went out and looked all over walmart today and found waterproof bugspray, so for my new clients bug spray will be provided.
3) Not only pay attention to when sunset is, but also when the tides are if you’re doing beach shots.
4) And when it comes to the beach shots make it very clear to the clients what you are really expecting, evidently when you say that they will be getting their clothing wet, I didn’t make myself very clear that I really wanted them IN and Under the water, oh well I still got some really cute shots and maybe my next shoot will let me put them all the way in.
5) The beach shots are best done last. It gives you a chance to get all the other images without the client being all wet and sandy and it offers a good cool down after a hot day of shooting and the model won’t be as worried about getting their hair wet in case it’d ruin it for the rest of the shots.
6) I LOVE LOVE LOVE my off camera flash through an umbrella and while a clamp works, and adapter will work better and give me more options (order being processed now) and I need a good sandbag so I’m not worrying about my poor flash toppling over.
7) A cooler full of ice and water bottles is a great idea and in my opinion a necessity to keeping your clients feeling good and happy, so from now on water will be provided on all outdoor location shoots.
I’m now working on the post editing for last night’s double shoot, so keep a look out in the senior galleries for the full shoot and one eye here for some favs and sneak peeks.
